As the prime consultant SAI provide the Resident Engineer (RE) and Senior Construction Inspector on this extremely busy intersection project. SAI provided full construction management services, including materials sampling and testing. The high levels of traffic, both vehicular and bicycle, on these two heavily travelled arterials posed a constant challenge to maintain the traffic control systems. The work involved adding a left turn pocket lane, partial removal and reconstruction of a median island, new traffic signal pole and light, new loop detection system, and various other items of work. The RE was responsible for all administration and documentation, field orders, change orders, supervising the inspector, chairing meetings, correspondence, progress payments and various other tasks. The inspector provided daily inspection and oversight of the contractor’s operations. The project was finished early and under budget.
